Metaphysics has always referred to the study of that which is beyond physics - First Cause and the Nature of Being. Modern Metaphysics, New Thought Metaphysics, or the New Thought Movement - as it is most often classified within a religious denominations chart - has since the 19th century evolved into a religion unto itself with its own subgroups and multiple denominations. Divine Science, Unity, and Religious Science are a few of the more popular named denominations. However, independence runs strong in New Thought Metaphysics, and many offshoots remain unaffiliated, and some are still un-named - even after many decades of established tradition. The director of the Institute for the Study of American Religion, considered America's senior scholar in the field of new and unconventional religions refers to this independence as an "amorphous decentralized structure", and suggests that it is responsible for the varied beliefs and practices of different Metaphysical congregations - even within the same denomination - and has created the difficulty for academia's Scholars of New Religions in understanding where New Thought Metaphysics fits into the rapidly changing religious scene in the modern world. He believes that this decentralized structure will have far ranging effects on the religious landscape in this coming century. In an academic university, an individual may choose to focus in any one of a few dozen specialties that fall under the general heading of Physics. In Religious University Metaphysics, the same is also true - although the metaphysical range of spiritual / religious fields might be considered a bit more diverse. The International Metaphysical Ministry does not favor one Metaphysical Belief System or Metaphysical Practice over another. All Members are Ordained New Thought University Metaphysical Ministers. And as such are well equipped to minister within any of the varied independent New Thought Metaphysical Denominations. International Metaphysical Ministry does not endorse, or recommend the services of one student or graduate over any other. The American Metaphysical Doctors Association reflects a small selection of the wonderful ways International Metaphysical Ministry students and graduates are contributing to the advancement and well being of their communities... their countries... and the world. Dr. Paul Leon Masters, founder of the International Metaphysical Ministry and University System founded the A.M.D.A. decades ago to recognize and bring honor to these high minded and dedicated individuals. |
